5 Wedding lighting tips & how it effects your photos
Planning a fall & winter wedding
More about me
Hi I'm Tiffany! Mama of 3 little ones, 17 year wedding photographer and portrait photographer, photography workshop host and mentor, 7 year wedding planner, micro homesteader, lover of travel & adventure, follower of Jesus, and hobby gardener.
Another year with this sweet little lady in front of my camera! This time, we were celebrating her 3rd birthday with a boho spring styled portrait session. I love watching my little clients grow! What makes it so great is that they know me and I know them. It’s so much easier for them to connect with me when I’m someone they have seen before. It also so much fun to chat their their parents and catchup.
In little miss Ava’s case, I planned her mom and dad’s wedding AND photographed it. Hello 2020 wedding fun! Now, I have the privilege of photographing Ava’s birthday photos and Christmas photos each year. She and I are little besties for photos and you might say that she is a pro at having her picture taken. You can see for yourself though. 🙂
My goal as I photograph each little one for their portrait session is to let them be a kid. Do I tell her what to do? Kinda. I might give her prompts or ideas, but all in all, she calls the shots. I have found that if you let a kid be a kid and have zero expectations going into it, you can’t be disappointed. The second you put pressure on them, they clam up and freak out. So I simply let them be themselves and get ready to take photos at rapid fire.
The other thing that really helps is giving them the space to roam free and explore. Add a few props to that and you have the perfect recipe for a tiny little adventurer. For Ava, her mom picked a theme that worked well for her birthday party, a boho spring greenery and forest vibe. With that in mind, I found a darling little spot and we “set up camp.” 😉 It made it easy to create a portrait session that worked with Melissa’s vision and Ava’s tiny little three year old style.
For Ava’s second portrait session look, she got to wear her favorite cowgirl boots. A few field flowers found their way into the basket and her hair only adding to whole vibe of the photos. Again, giving miss Ava something to do and play with gave more time for photos because it was an activity, not just a “sit and smile” sort of situation. She just got to be a kid and photo just happened to be taken too.
Little miss Ava, I’m thrilled to know you and your family. You are a pure delight and such a smart little cookie! Thank you for joining me again for your photos and happy 3rd birthday to you sweetie!
