Welcome to Bald Head Island life. After this trip, Aaron and I have decided to call this quaint little island a country club island. Life moves at a leisure pace and travel mostly takes place on a golf cart. With hundreds of lovely home stretching all around the island, the Bald Head Island Conservancy is making sure enough of the lush greenery is preserved and saved. So most of the homes on the inside of the island are surrounded by forest. It’s quite lovely if I do say so myself.
On our first trip down we arrived on the island in the dark and while we did the same thing this trip, it was nice to have a feel for where you are. To get to the island you must take the ferry on a short about thirty minute or so ride. It’s just long enough to start to lull me to sleep. I’m like a baby in a moving vehicle of any sort.
This trip I tried to photograph a different perspective the island so I don’t have much of the harbor area but you can see more on my last trip’s blog post here.
The harbor area homes line the streets along with tall palm trees. It’s a rather pretty site to see.
I’m in love with this homes glass doors leading out to the porch area. Though I have never been to New Orleans, and someday wish to go, I feel as though this home has the look of a home from there.
For those of you who know me, you know that I am obsessed with neutrals, navy blue and light blue. The island is full of homes that match that description so you can imagine how much I adore it there. To bad the most reasonable homes start at about $500,000. Yikes! I guess I will just add home ownership there to my bucket list. 😉
Aaron and I almost pained our house grey last summer but I checked out and kept it white, just like it had always been. This home really made me wish I hadn’t. It’s sort light grey siding with the darker navy accents and white trim looked to cute! Not to mention the charming white fence complete with flowering vines. Sigh…
As you head into the deeper areas of the island you find swoon worthy moss lining and roads.
Nestled in the tress just right off the marsh is the cutest little church I have ever seen. The Bald Head Island chapel is defiantly one of the most adorable churches I have ever seen. yes, you can add photographing a wedding, or four, here to my goals list. I just don’t think you could ever get tired of photographing a wedding here.
Lastly, if the rest of the island was simply to boring for you, then here is the beach.
I don’t think I had noticed these historic little cottages before but this trip, once I saw them, I was obsessed! They have to be the cutest little things! On one of our last days, I got up the never to sneak up and take a few closer photos of them. Though they were older and were in the process of being repaired, they still looked darling!
Unlike our last trip there were hundreds of Jellyfish on the beach! It was crazy! I’m not sure what was causing them to wash up on the shore but I started to feel really bad for them all.
The last weekend of our trip, friends from Raleigh came to visit and brought their pup, Chipper, with them. He and Duke loved each other! Trying to get a photo of the two of them was a different story. lol
My handsome fellows. 🙂
If I can ever get around to it, there will be a part two with more iPhone photos and personal stories but work has been quite hectic since we returned so if you are still curious, head on over to our Instagram page @JacksonSignaturePhotography to see more!
Cheers!

My family & I have been vacationing on Bald head island since 2006, as my aunt & uncle have a house on the island. How refreshing it was to see your blog post pop up in my newsfeed. My cousin was married on the island & it was beautiful. The 3 houses you fell in love with are called the three Charlie’s – named after the original light house keepers of the island. Thank you for brightening my day & making me look forward to returning to the island in July.
Thank you Elaine!! The are the most charming little beach houses! I would love to stay in one someday. The view is spectacular from their porches.
The island has so many lovely little spots! We might be visiting again in September but we aren’t sure yet. I hope we can! Enjoy your trip in July!! ?
