Welcome to our travel adventure themed gender reveal party! Did you ever feel like your mom sense was off? I totally did BIG TIME on this one but you all seamed to be more in tune than I was. You see, I thought baby J or as we call this little one, little Bug was going to be a boy. I mean I was convinced! Ever since I was little I always imagined having a boy first. Growing up I always wished for an older brother and I think there was even a time when I begged my mom and Dad to adopt one for me. Needless to say, our gender reveal was a bit of a shocker but you can see for yourself…
Aaron and I set off to the midwives early on his birthday morning for our first sonogram. If you are wondering why we picked his birthday morning, it was because last year his birthday wish was to be a daddy by his next birthday. While our little one wasn’t quite present in our arms, I thought what better present than to “meet” his baby on his birthday. I’m pretty sure it was the best gift ever!
After “meeting” the little one we took home the envelope with the gender results nestled inside to my mom and dad. They had graciously offered to host the gender reveal party at their home since my dad would be flying his RC plane out of the little landing strip at their house so it only made sense to have the party part there. It didn’t really bother me that my parents knew what Little Bug was before us until we pulled back in their driveway later that evening.
We had each of our guests fill out a “boarding pass” with their guess as to what was “on board.” I always have to take things over the top. Oh boy!
Like all the parties I throw, I seem to go over the top. Aaron said just some pies and next thing I know we had light munchies and over the top decor. Oops! I guess that’s what you get when a wedding planner and designer is the momma. My kids will have the coolest parties and Aaron is doomed. I’ve already told him she had to have a pony party. Hehe
My mom and little sister turned the ceiling into a little work of art as well. I have to say, it was pretty darn cute! I think I got my party and decor skills from my momma but this time she outdid me!
Not that my baby is the best or anything BUT she did wave and suck her thumb for her first photos shoot. hehe
My sweet little sister made some homemade hot air ballon cupcakes for the event too.
Finally the moment of truth came… Some of our dear family and friends gathered to join in the fun of finding out what Little Bug is. The moments leading up to me seeing the plane do it’s fly-by were in chaotic slow motion. I ran out side and was standing by Aaron and next thing you know everyone was cheering and I still hadn’t seen the plane but when I did… well the photo below shows all. It’s not the most flattering photo of me but I don’t think my jaw could have dropped any further.
Like my mom pointed out last week, no one has ever truly been able to surprise me like God did the day I learned this sweet baby was a girl. It was truly a surprise of a lifetime and while I truthfully was not a fan of the results at first, I can now honestly say that I’m excited it’s a girl now.
I might have always dreamed of having a boy first and thought I would be a grand mom to a little boy but
#1 there is always next time
#2 I have so many wonderful things I can teach this little girl that a little boy wouldn’t really care to learn.
I can’t wait to teach our sweet little girl all about weddings, home decorating, baking and if I take it back to my childhood… how to be a tomboy. 🙂
After seeing the plane do it’s fly-by, I still wan’t sure the sonogram correct so I had to see the photo for myself. Well friends, it was quite right.
Our sweet babe is a girl! So now we have a Little Lady Bug since we aren’t sharing her name till after she joins us and we are ecstatic!
Mommy has the baby belly and daddy the food belly.
