It all started with a list on an Instagram post. The list held 5 things about me. It was the magical #3 on the list that got this whole thing started… “Photographing a lovely southern wedding with Spanish moss and a plantation home as the backdrop is on my bucket list.”
Shortly after my Instagram post made its way over to Facebook, I received a message from Stacy. She was an old friend of Aaron’s and had started Wedding planning in Raleigh, North Carolina, Events By Memory Lane. After a few quick messages on Facebook, Stacy and I were hooked and bound to make this southern styled shoot happen. I don’t think Aaron knew what to do with us during the planning of this shoot. We would hop on the phone for a “quick” shoot update and 2 hours later we were finally off the phone. Oops!
Our dream for this southern styled plantation shoot was inspired by the 1985 television series, North and South. We wanted to bring out the southern charm of the plantation home and fill it with classic elements and a modern twist to make it relate-able and appealing to today’s bride. I never dreamed that this little vision would unfold and include over 11 wonderful wedding vendors!
As an added bonus, I not only had the privilege of playing the part of the photographer BUT florist as well for the shoot. We searched high and low for a florist but not one was able to join us on this little adventure so I decide to make it happen. A box of ivy, 3 boxes of fresh flowers, and a freezing cold car ride later, we arrived at Stacy’s house late Wednesday.
As most of you know, I love to make friends. Well, Stacy and I chatted it up during every phone conversation like we were two old friends but it wasn’t until Wednesday, two days before the shoot, that we actually met in person for the first time. After staying up till almost 2:00AM chatting we finally crashed only to wake up early Thursday morning and start the final prep for the shoot. Our first stop was to view the lovely Rose Hill Plantation grounds and map out where and when we wanted to do everything the next day.
Once the venue plan was set, it was off to pick up the cake from Edible Art Bakery.
Lastly, Thursday evening I created 2 bouquets, 3 boutonnieres, and 4 table arrangements. Phew! That was no easy task but several hours and one giant oops later, it was all done and the flower arrangements and bouquets were all chilling in the fridge.
At long last Friday arrived and the day couldn’t have been more perfect. I still can’t believe that this whole shoot even happened! It was like a dream! Everything was flawless! For now though, I can only just show you the iPhone photos and one pretty collage.
This whole thing was nothing short of magical but it couldn’t have happened without the lovely lady to my right in this photo. Stacy jumped on board with my crazy ideas and made this whole shoot come to life! She created the perfect styled shoot and spent countless hours making sure everything was in place for all of us. This was her first styled shoot even!!! Please be sure to show her some love on social media and say hello! (Events by Memory Lane)
