No matter where you pick, the goal is to have your portrait session tell a story. The story of your family, two people in love, your first little one about to join the world… Well, you get the point. Below are a few suggested ideas to get you thinking about the best spot. Still, need some help? Just email or call. I’m always happy to help!
what to wear
What you wear is key for a successful session. Clothing complements who you are and speaks to the environment in which the session is taking place. Your style should be unique to you, so we’ve put together some clothing advice for a creative and comfortable session. We suggest planning your outfits out completely several days before your session so you have plenty of time to make adjustments.
TIP #1
Be sure to wear an outfit that makes you feel fabulous! Layered clothing is a great way to jazz things up and feel free to accessorize your outfits. Make sure all clothes are clean and pressed and on hangers a few days before your session. Remember, shoes must be clean and stylish, too.
Note: Shorts and very short dresses are harder to be more relaxed and flexible in if you will be on the ground with kiddos.
TIP #2
As for colors, we suggest nothing too bright or over pattern. Choose a palette of 3-4 colors and mix it up, including both pants and dresses. You want to coordinate, without being overly “matchy-matchy.” Picture a page in a clothing catalog where everyone coordinates, but nobody stands out more than the rest.
Light clothes look better on lighter backgrounds, and dark clothes look better on darker backgrounds.
TIP #3
Feel free to bring props for a kiddo’s session. Bring items they love to tell a little bit of their story.
TIP #4
It’s best to avoid baggy clothes and dressy clothes in a casual setting.
Lastly, don’t Stress!! Just so you know, the first 10-15 minutes of any portrait session are usually pretty awkward while everyone’s getting warmed up. It’s totally normal, so don’t worry at all! I’m going to walk you through each step of the way!
