Nags Head & Cape Hatteras | Travel Tuesday

We left at 7:00AM on a Tuesday and returned about 8:00PM on Thursday. I have now fully taken on the name of destination senior portrait photographer. It’s not every day I get to just pick-up and take a 9 hour drive from Pennsylvania to Nags Head and Cape Hatters for a senior portrait session. Call me crazy but Miranda and I had an awesome little adventure last week.

Our 9 hour journey was complete with an underground tunnel. Ahhh!!! I am pretty sure a sob escaped when Miranda told me about it a few hours prior. Most of my beach travels growing up took me to Georgia and Florida so the beaches in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina were not visited and there was no need to journey UNDER the water IN a tunnel. All in all though, the stress of passing through the tunnel didn’t compare to the North Carolina Beaches. Let’s just say that I have found a new favorite area to visit. Now I was not a huge fan of the busy Outer Banks area, but further down the way into Cape Hatteras and Nags Head was just lovely! While I was there I decided to take a for “tourist” photos.

Someday I would love to come back and climb every single step of the Cape Hatters Lighthouse, but for this trip, I just enjoyed it from the ground.

A few things to do while there:

– Visit the Bodie Island Lighthouse. Even though you can’t climb this lighthouse it is still charming with its back and white stripes.

– Stop in Manteo and enjoy it’s cute little shops. It also has a cute little light house. I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen so many lighthouses in one place before.

– Visit the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse as well and if you dare, take the 257 step journey to the top of it. After that tough workout, be sure to stop at Duck Donuts. You have earned that treat. I recommend the maple glaze.

I’m in LOVE with this house. I could spend hours on their porch! To whoever own this charming little beach house, I would love to be your best friend! You have the cutest beach house!

Since my adventure was only a few days long, I will have to go back to see more of the local sights. Until next time North Carolina…
