While choosing your wedding colors can be tough, I have created a few pointers for you today that I hope helps give you a good starting point. It’s so easy to just grab a few colors and go to town but just like your other wedding items, it’s good to look at colors on a person level. Choosing colors that you like and that your fiancé will be comfortable wearing is a great starting point. There are so many palettes out there though, it’s so easy to get distracted.
Be careful to not just jump on the trendy color wagon. Goodness, it’s so easy to do! When Aaron and I were planning, I found the most wonderful resource. It’s called The Perfect Palette. The Perfect Palette is an online blog-site that allows you to search through wedding colors and see what other brides have paired with that main color. You can even use their Pinterest boards as well for inspiration and ideas.
For Aaron and I’s wedding, my first color palette thought was to choose purple. It was in the fall color palettes and everyone loved it. However, I didn’t love it and I wasn’t sold on it. As I started to lay out my wedding with purple everything, I kept coming back to the fact that I LOVED blue. I have always been a blue girl. Pink is nice and so is purple BUT anything blue has always caught my eye the most.
Once I got away from the whole overdone fall colors thing and the trendy palettes at the time, a dark navy blue seamed like it embodied a “fall look” and my favorite color. I had no idea what to pair with the navy blue though. Thankfully I found The Perfect Palette and popped over to their site and started scrolling. There were numerous options but what I settled on was Navy blue, Gray and cream with pine accents. (Were were married in the mountains just in case you were wondering.)
As you too start to build your wedding color palette, think about your favorite colors. Think about your hubby-to-be and whether or not he would enjoy having everything be the color you have in mind. Think about your bridesmaids too. Certain colors just don’t look good against some skin tones. Lastly, think about your venue and the colors the owners have used to decorate it.
